John Crispin b95b0928ac build: add per stage build time profiling
Set BUILD_TIME_LOG=<file> to record a begin and an end event for every
prepare, configure, compile and install stage of every tool, toolchain
component, kernel and package. scripts/build-time-report.pl turns the log
into a report.

The report divides each second of the build between the stages that run
in it, so the numbers show which stages hold up the wall clock rather
than which ones burn the most CPU. Nothing is recorded and no extra
process runs when BUILD_TIME_LOG is unset.

John Crispin bc96efb443 build: find the alias of a build directory with notdir
subdir calls diralias twice for every target of every build directory,
and diralias splits the path into words twice to find its last
component. This takes a quarter of the parse time of the main Makefile.

Use notdir, which returns the same last component. The rules do not
change.

John Crispin 407e833140 build: expand the subdir recipes only when they run
subdir expands the recipe of every target of every build directory when
it creates the rules, although make runs only a few of them. The main
Makefile creates these rules on every make call, and a build calls it
several times in a row.

Put only a call of the recipe into the rules, so that make expands it
when the recipe runs. The commands do not change. The parse of the main
Makefile takes 0.10 s instead of 0.15 s, with 318 package directories.

John Crispin 6258a11bac image: only define the rules of selected devices
A target defines more than 100 devices, and the image Makefile
expands the kernel, image and artifact rules of every one of them. The
rules of a device that is not selected are only reachable through
install-disabled and compile-disabled, so nothing uses them. The image
Makefile is parsed twice per build, 0.3 s each for mediatek.

Only expand Device/Build for selected devices, and for all devices if
CONFIG_IB is set, as the ImageBuilder compiles them all.

John Crispin 9772acb4f7 build: only define the clean rule for packages not selected
BuildPackage expands the full BuildTarget/ipkg for every package in a
Makefile, whether it is selected or not. package/kernel/linux defines
more than 1000 kmods, and this takes about 0.9 s of its 1.2 s parse,
which is on the critical path of every build.

Move the clean rule into BuildTarget/ipkg/disabled, and only expand it
for packages that are not selected, unless DEVELOPER is set. The other
rules of such a package can not be reached, as its compile target only
depends on them if the package is selected. Target types without a
disabled variant are expanded as before.

John Crispin 64acf83435 build: test for 64-bit time_t only when a host build needs it
host-build.mk runs the YEAR_2038 compiler test while it parses, so every
package with a host build runs it on every make call, also for a target
build or a build that has nothing to do.

Add the result to HOST_CONFIGURE_ARGS without expanding it, so the test
runs only when the host build is configured.

John Crispin a44d3e3256 build: find the source date of a package only once per directory
Make expands PKG_SOURCE_DATE_EPOCH for every recipe of a package, as
package-pack.mk exports it to the recipes. Every expansion runs
get_source_date_epoch.sh, which runs git.

Keep the result for each directory. The directory still depends on
whether the build directory has a version.date file.

John Crispin 842611776d build: hash the package files only once per Makefile
Build/CoreTargets fixes the value of STAMP_PREPARED, but its expansion
references STAMP_PREPARED several times before that happens, and every
reference hashes all files of the package again with find and mkhash.
HOST_STAMP_PREPARED carries the same hash and the same cost.

Compute the hash on first use in PKG_FILES_MD5 and keep it. Both stamps
read it.

John Crispin f5fb15d869 build: list the available feeds only when needed
feeds.mk runs "scripts/feeds list -n" when it is included, which
happens in every package Makefile. The list is only needed to find the
package directories of the feeds, which a package Makefile only does
when it creates or cleans a package.

Evaluate FEEDS_AVAILABLE on first use.

John Crispin e3a89c4e4b build: detect the host triplet once per build
The top-level Makefile calls itself for prereq and for the build, and
every call runs config.guess again. config.guess runs the host C

John Crispin 177325ba1a build: compute REVISION and SOURCE_DATE_EPOCH once per build
The top-level Makefile calls itself for prereq and for the build, and
every call runs getver.sh and get_source_date_epoch.sh again, although
the values are already exported by the first call.

Take them from the environment in recursive calls. The first call still
computes them, so a value in the environment of the user is ignored as
before.

John Crispin a15df19727 kernel: filter versioned kmod items in make
version_filter calls package-metadata.pl for every list that contains
a versioned item such as "foo@ge6.18". Parsing package/kernel/linux
runs it about 40 times, which takes 1.3 s of 2.2 s, and this parse is
on the critical path of every build.

Filter items of the form <name>@<op><version> in make. The version
comparison stays in package-metadata.pl, but runs only once per
version. Other forms are passed to package-metadata.pl as before.

The only difference in the output: items without a version condition
are no longer passed through the shell, so quotes in a KCONFIG value
are kept. That list is only used for variable names, so the result is
the same. All kmod packages and images are identical.

John Crispin 2d40469602 build: allow packages to build their variants in parallel
The variants of a package are built one after the other in one recipe.
For packages with many variants, such as the boot loaders, this makes
the variants the longest chain of the package build, also if nothing
has to be done.

Add PKG_PARALLEL_VARIANTS. If a package sets it, every variant gets its
own make target with the dependencies of the package, and the package
target depends on these targets. A package must only set it if its
variants share no files outside of their build directories.

John Crispin 5433adbc6e build: sort the file list for the stamp hash in the C locale
find_md5 sorts the list of package files with the locale of the user.
The top-level Makefile sets LC_ALL=C, but a make call in a package
directory, such as make -C package/kernel/linux, uses the locale of
the shell. With en_GB.UTF-8, some file names sort in a different
order, so the hash and the name of the prepared stamp differ, and the
package is built again. The next top-level build then builds it again.

Always sort in the C locale.

John Crispin 1315d21949 build: log failed host builds in the error file of the subdir
Commit 501123eb7a ("include/subdir: on build failure always print
error") passes $(2) instead of $(1) to ERROR for the builds of a build
type, such as host builds. subdir has no second parameter, so with
BUILD_LOG set a failed host build is written to logs/error.txt instead
of logs/package/error.txt, where the other errors of the subdir go.

John Crispin 39ed48c8f1 build: clean all stamps of a subdir
stampfile assigns the clean rule of its stamp to <subdir>//clean with
:=, so every call replaces the one before. toolchain and tools define
a compile and a check stamp, and <subdir>/clean only removes the check
stamp. After "make toolchain/clean", the compile stamp is newer than the
toolchain sources, the next build takes the toolchain as built, and the
target build fails because the compiler is missing.

Append the clean rule instead, so that all stamps are removed.

John Crispin be3937dfbc build: only track library dependencies of selected packages
The prepare stamp of a Makefile depends on the library version files
of every package it defines, selected or not. Packages that are not
selected are not in the dependency graph of the top-level build, so
their libraries can be built after the package in a parallel build,
and the package is prepared and built again on the next run.

The own packages of a Makefile are only filtered out if they are
defined before the packages that depend on them. mac80211 defines
cfg80211 and mac80211 after the drivers, so it depends on its own
version files, and every clean build is followed by a rebuild of
mac80211, mt76 and linux-firmware.

Only add the library dependencies of selected packages, or of all
packages if DEVELOPER is set.

John Crispin a0e191667c build: exclude apk staging dirs from the autorebuild check
The rdep check on PKG_BUILD_DIR excludes the ipkg-* staging dirs, but
not the apk-* ones. The package step writes the apk scripts after
.built is touched. If this crosses a second boundary, the next build
sees newer files and packs the package again, which starts the loop
again. The kernel package with its kmods takes several seconds to pack
and is repacked on every build.

Anchor the pattern to PKG_BUILD_DIR, as a plain "*/apk-*" also matches
the build dir of the apk package itself.

Daniel Golle e23f575e4d build: add ATOMIC64_DEPENDS
Packages that use 64-bit atomics carry open-coded architecture lists
such as +(arm||armeb||mips||mipsel||powerpc):libatomic. Those lists
drift (ruby still names arc), over-include ARMv6K and ARMv7 targets
whose compiler inlines 64-bit atomics via ldrexd/strexd, and
under-include ARMv5 in other packages. Add HAS_ATOMIC64, selected on
the architectures where GCC emits 64-bit atomics inline (all 64-bit
ones, x86 via cmpxchg8b, ARMv6K and ARMv7), and ATOMIC64_DEPENDS as
the single dependency expression to use instead. The condition is one
negated symbol because the Depends: evaluator in package-pack.mk only
handles flat conjunctions and disjunctions. 16-byte and size-generic
atomics need libatomic on every architecture and keep a plain
+libatomic dependency.

Daniel Golle d223c88f57 targets: derive ARM ISA features from CPU_TYPE
arm_v6 and arm_v7 are taken from the merged kernel config, which
describes the kernel and can differ from the userspace ISA:
sunxi/arm926ejs inherits CONFIG_CPU_V7=y from its target config and is
advertised as ARMv7 although it builds for arm926ej-s, and a promptless
symbol such as CPU_V7 cannot be unset in a subtarget config in a way
that survives kernel_oldconfig. Derive arm_v6, arm_v6k and arm_v7 from
CPU_TYPE, the core the toolchain targets, and keep ARMv6K, which has
ldrexd/strexd, apart from plain ARMv6.

Paul Spooren ff41ddea1c build: gate firmware image signing behind SIGN_FIRMWARE
Firmware image signing in append-metadata/append-gl-metadata was conditional
only by the presence of the build key. Add an explicit SIGN_FIRMWARE option
(default enabled except with BUILDBOT) so appending the fwtool signature can be
toggled on its own.

It's disable on buildbot since we use a decentralized building with no
individual keys on builders. Instead, a fake key is currently used, which adds
an insecure signature.

The future of signing firmware and key distribution across the build
infrastructure should be discussed separately.

Paul Spooren b0b4bf6ea0 build: don't store timestamps in APK packages
This commit statically sets SOURCE_DATE_EPOCH to 0, which causes `apk mkpkg` to
drop the date from generated packages. This improves reproducibility while
leaving package specific SOURCE_DATE_EPOCH untouched. The latter can be
interesting for i.e. packages like busybox, which prominently show that date on
the login shell.

Without this commit, packages that live inside feed repositories (openwrt.git,
packages.git etc) like `mtd` or `attendedsysupgrade-common` would have random
timestamps since no "full" git log was available.

Below an example with different source dates (0, 1):

Published sources archives may contain a mixture of MTIMEs, so taking the time
of the first file found varies based on filesystem order. To fix this, sort all

Since piping into a file directly creates that file, we also need to
specifically tell `find` to ignore `version.date`.

Furthermore, move this prior to the ./src copy step, since for some packages,
the OpenWrt build system ships extra ./src files, which would introduce the
wrong timestamps again.

Karsten Sperling 28fa9c7540 build: fix recipe line break in wrap_mirror fallback path
Commit 042996b46b ("build: stricter hash validation on download")
refactored the $(if) in wrap_mirror from a single line to multiple lines.
The else branch (used when MIRROR is empty) was moved to a new line without
a trailing backslash on the preceding line. This causes download methods
that use wrap_mirror (e.g. git) to fail when PKG_SOURCE_MIRROR is 0:

    SHELL= flock ...flock -c '  ...
    bash: -c: line 1: unexpected EOF while looking for matching `''

package directory. That fails in shallow feed clones and in the SDK
(no .git), collapsing to the script's mtime and breaking .apk
reproducibility across SDK rebuilds and between buildbot and SDK.

With this comment, PKG_UNPACK generates a version.date file, later used to
determine a reproducible SOURCE_DATE_EPOCH. Since unpack happens after
download, the evaluation of SOURCE_DATE_EPOCH is now lazy, invoking the
`get_source_date_epoch.sh` script on every use.

While at it, drop export of PKG_SOURCE_DATE_EPOCH and clean it from the
ipkg-build script.

Guoxin Pu 246b216df5 image: fix per device targz rootfs wrong suffix and redundant images
In commit d89cb72c23 , a new rootfs type "targz" was introduced, to correctly pack the rootfs AFTER `DEVICE_PACKAGES` installation (unlike the old simple `rootfs.tar.gz`) .

The expected release artifact shall be a single corresponding tar gz release accompanying or relacing the old simple `rootfs.tar.gz`.

However, if one take a look at the v25.12 series release download pages, e.g. [25.12.4/x86/64](https://downloads.openwrt.org/releases/25.12.4/targets/x86/64/), one could see that there're now four release artifacts related to rootfs targz:

- [generic-targz-combined-efi.img.gz](https://downloads.openwrt.org/releases/25.12.4/targets/x86/64/openwrt-25.12.4-x86-64-generic-targz-combined-efi.img.gz)
- [generic-targz-combined.img.gz](https://downloads.openwrt.org/releases/25.12.4/targets/x86/64/openwrt-25.12.4-x86-64-generic-targz-combined.img.gz)
- [generic-targz-rootfs.img.gz](https://downloads.openwrt.org/releases/25.12.4/targets/x86/64/openwrt-25.12.4-x86-64-generic-targz-rootfs.img.gz)
- [rootfs.tar.gz](https://downloads.openwrt.org/releases/25.12.4/targets/x86/64/openwrt-25.12.4-x86-64-rootfs.tar.gz)

It's obvious the new `targz` release actually reuses the same `TARGET_ROOTFS_{TYPE}` handler same as `squashfs`, `ext4` and alike. And the three `generic-targz` img.gz contains the same expected tar gz either as their second partition, or as the whole image. This could be verified by the following script:

```bash
URL_PARENT=https://downloads.openwrt.org/releases/25.12.4/targets/x86/64/openwrt-25.12.4-x86-64-
for TYPE in combined-efi combined rootfs; do
        curl -L "${URL_PARENT}generic-targz-${TYPE}.img.gz" | gzip -cd > "${TYPE}.img"
done
for TYPE in combined-efi combined; do
        INFO=$(sfdisk -d "${TYPE}.img" | sed -n 's/^'"${TYPE}.img"'2 : start= \+\([0-9]\+\), size= \+\([0-9]\+\),.\+.\+$/\1 \2/p')
        dd if="${TYPE}.img" of="${TYPE}.tar.gz" bs=512 skip="${INFO%% *}" count="${INFO##* }"
done
cp rootfs.img rootfs.tar.gz
sha256sum combined-efi.tar.gz combined.tar.gz rootfs.tar.gz
file rootfs.tar.gz
```

Output:

rootfs.tar.gz: gzip compressed data, max compression, from Unix, original size modulo 2^32 0
```
The checksum of the extracted, actually expected .tar.gz are all same. And if we peek inside its content, it's indeed what we expected:
```
> tar -tzf rootfs.tar.gz
./
./bin/
./bin/ash
./bin/board_detect
./bin/busybox
./bin/cat
./bin/chgrp
./bin/chmod
./bin/chown
./bin/config_generate
./bin/cp
./bin/date
...
```
A disk image with a `tar.gz` as its second partiton doesn't boot anyway and I doubt if there's any mechanic to make it bootable. So `generic-targz-combined-efi.img.gz` and `generic-targz-combined.img.gz` are not needed at all, and `generic-targz-rootfs.img.gz` shall be renamed to have a `tar.gz` suffix instead.
Therefore work around this by skipping creating images for fs `targz` in the general loop, and only create the rootfs.tar.gz later for `targz` "fs"
This affects both the real builder and imagebuilder. I've tested this with multiple imagebuilders.
Tested with `openwrt-imagebuilder-25.12.4-mvebu-cortexa53.Linux-x86_64`:
```sh
rm -rf bin && make image PROFILE=generic
```
Felix Fietkau e7530a287a build: fix apk_package_files wildcard for packages without ABI version
The wildcard combined an apk_package_files pattern of $(pkg)-*.apk with a
gen_package_wildcard that ends in [^a-z]*, so the full glob required two
dashes. Files for packages without an ABI version (e.g. ubbf-0~....apk)
only contain one dash and never matched, so ipkg-remove was never called
on them and stale .apk files accumulated in the bin directory.
Drop the explicit dash from apk_package_files. The [^a-z] in
gen_package_wildcard already serves as the dash matcher, and
scripts/ipkg-remove filters precisely by reading apk metadata.
Eric Fahlgren f1e4aaf7b4 imagebuilder: suppress rootfs image when filesystem specified
When using imagebuilder to create images, ROOTFS_FILESYSTEM may be
defined to create just the desired images, but the '*-rootfs.tar.gz'
and '*-rootfs.cpio.gz' images are being created unconditionally
for many targets.
By making generation of these images conditional on the state of
ROOTFS_FILESYSTEM, we can save significant space (measured 3-7 MB
depending on length of package list) and time.
Paul Spooren db7af22e49 imagebuilder: allow to specify filesystem
The ImageBuilder creates by default all filesystems enabled during it's own
build, which are typically squashfs and sometimes ext4.
This commit allows to set ROOTFS_FILESYSTEM to specify which specific
filesystem should be build (instead of all).
Motivation is to reduce the load on sysupgrade servers but also fix corner
cases where a squashfs filesystem results in a working image while the ext4
image fails, resulting in a ImageBuilder failure.
Roland Reinl 145bc7e52f filogic: add support for D-Link AQUILA PRO AI E30
Specification:
The device is similar to the M30 but has only one LAN port and no WAN port.
- MT7981 CPU using 2.4GHz and 5GHz WiFi (both AX)
- 512MB RAM
- 128MB NAND flash with two UBI partitions with identical size
- 1 multi color LED (red, green, blue, white) connected via GCA230718
- 2 buttons (WPS, reset, LED)
- 1 1Gbit LAN port
Disassembly:
- There are two screws at the power connector which must be removed. Afterwards the top case can be removed (it is clipped on, so some tools are required).
Serial Interface:
- The serial interface can be connected to the 4 pin holes on the board. Do NOT connect VCC.
- The pins are labelled on the PCB (RX, TX, GND)
- Settings: 115200, 8N1
MAC addresses:
- LAN MAC is stored in partition "Odm" at offset 0x8f
- WLAN MAC (2.4 GHz and 5GHz) is LAN MAC + 1
Reverting back to OEM firmware:
- There is currently no easy way to revert back to the OEM image
- The methods from M30 and M60 doesn't seem to work anymore
- If you plan to revert back to OEM firmware later, do the following steps before flashing OpenWrt:
  - Boot from initramfs as described in "Flashing via U-Boot" but don't flash anything
  - Instead, make a backup of UBI and UBI1 partition
  - The created dumps must be written to the initial partitions to revert back to OEM
Flashing via Recovery Web Interface:
- Set your IP address to 192.168.200.10, subnetmask 255.255.255.0
- Press the reset button while powering on the device
- Keep the reset button pressed until the LED blinks red
- Open a Chromium based and goto http://192.168.200.50/ (recovery web interface)
- Download openwrt-mediatek-filogic-dlink_aquila-pro-ai-e30-a1-squashfs-recovery.bin
- Note: The recovery web interface always reports successful flashing, even if it fails
- After flashing, the recovery web interface will try to forward the browser to 192.168.0.1 (can be ignored)
- If flashing was successful, OpenWrt is accessible via 192.168.1.1
- The recovery image boots an initramfs image, flash the sys upgrade image to get to „normal“ OpenWrt mode
Flashing via U-Boot:
- Open the case, connect to the UART console
- Set your IP address to 192.168.200.2, subnet mask 255.255.255.0. Connect to one of the LAN interfaces of the router
- Run a tftp server which provides openwrt-mediatek-filogic-dlink_aquila-pro-ai-e30-a1-initramfs-kernel.bin
- Supply the board with 12V
- Select "7. Load image" in the U-Boot menu
- Enter image file, tftp server IP and device IP (if they differ from the default).
- TFTP download to RAM will start. After a few seconds OpenWrt initramfs should start
- The initramfs is accessible via 192.168.1.1, change your IP address accordingly (or use multiple IP addresses on your interface)
- Perform a sysupgrade using openwrt-mediatek-filogic-dlink_aquila-pro-ai-e30-a1-squashfs-sysupgrade.bin
- Reboot the device. OpenWrt should start from flash now
Flashing via OEM web interface is not possible, as it will change the active partition and OpenWrt is only running on the first UBI partition.
Hauke Mehrtens 04f10eb796 build: set max-page-size linker flag to match target page size
ELF binaries embed the maximum page size used during linking in the
PT_LOAD segment alignment. If this value is larger than the actual
system page size, the kernel will still load the binary but wastes
memory due to over-alignment. If it is smaller, the binary may fail
to load or cause incorrect behavior with features like RELRO.
Most architectures use 4KB pages, but loongarch64 uses 16KB pages
(CONFIG_PAGE_SIZE_16KB). Explicitly pass -z max-page-size to the
linker so that binaries are built with the correct page alignment for
the target, avoiding issues with RELRO segment padding and ensuring
correct memory mapping on the target system.
Before binutils 2.39 RELRO sections were padded to common page size
which is 4K on MIPS, with binutils 3.29 the padding was changed to
max page size which is 64K on MIPS. With this change we will pad them to
4K again.
This reduces the size of user space binaries in OpenWrt.
The size of the uncompressed root file system of a mips malta be build
decreased by about 20%.
old file size:
```
$ du -s build_dir/target-mips_24kc_musl/root-malta/
15844	build_dir/target-mips_24kc_musl/root-malta/
```
New file size:
```
$ du -s build_dir/target-mips_24kc_musl/root-malta/
12564	build_dir/target-mips_24kc_musl/root-malta/
```
The size of the image did not decrease much because of the strong
compression used by OpenWrt.
